Angling - What tackle?
To make the most of all the opportunities here you would need to bring the entire contents of a fair sized tackle shop. A more general approach can be made with a only a beach or bass rod (to cast weights in the range 50-150g/2-6oz), and a 9 or 10 foot (3m) spinning rod, or 11 or 12 foot (3.5m) carp rod casting up to 2 ounces (60g) or 11/2 to 2 lbs test curve.
Reels to match can be fixed spool or multiplier according to taste. Lines should be 0.35 to 0.40 (15-20lbs) for the beach rod, and not more than 0.30 (12lbs) for the lighter rod. More specialised equipment should be brought if you wish to tackle more extreme targets such as conger, wrasse or mullet.
You will need hooks ranging from size 2 to size 4/0 for general fishing, but a huge variety of sea floats, mulleting gear, spinning lures and all other angling necessities are available from the well stocked local tackle dealers (see under useful information).
The only other essentials are a decent sized landing net, a good strong pair of boots for the rocky landscape, some decent water proofs (yes, even in sunny Guernsey it sometimes gets a little moist), a good lamp of some sort for night fishing, possibly a rod rest, and a set of tide tables which are essential to your enjoyment and safety. Oh - and lots of bait.
