Island Hopping - Alderney
Closest to France, Alderney is steeped in maritime history. Its massive breakwater was built to shelter the British fleet, whilst its strategic position spawned formidable coastal fortifications, earning it the title of "The Gibraltar of the Channel".
The busy, working port of Braye is a firm favourite with cross channel yachtsmen. Alderney is famous for its open space and natural, unspoiled country, including some superb beaches. The harbour sits alongside a fine bay, with others at Crabby and Platte Saline (but beware their strong undertow). The north coast boasts the beautiful bays of Corblets, Arch and Saye, with good sand and safe swimming.
You can get to Alderney by air, throughout the year, or sea with a seasonal ferry or alternatively by boat charter.
