Island Hopping - Sark
Sark's spectacular coastline seduced the great French poet Victor Hugo, who wrote "this beauty is absurd". Her sheer cliffs, soaring caves, hidden bays and piratical old harbour remain untouched by the modern world.
The sea surrounds Sark in more ways than one: stroll down tarmac-free lanes to find nets and crab pots stacked beside fishermen's cottages. Or sample the barman's catch - bass, lobster or chancre crab - at one of the island's fine farmhouse restaurants.
According to the local shepherd, even the local lamb owes its delicious taste to the sea salt, which dusts the island's cliff top pastures. In Sark, the ocean is never far away.
There are regular ferries to Sark throughout the season.
